History

Jill began taking piano lessons at the age of four, and began teaching beginner students herself at the age of 14.  She has been fortunate enough to take lessons from some of the most noted teachers in Alberta, including Brian Cross, Edwin Gnandt, and Peter Janciewicz.  She began teaching in Airdrie in 1992, and also started taking exams to achieve her certification.  Jill received First Class Honours on her certificate from the Royal Conservatory.  In addition to her teaching experience, she has accompanied the Pierce Fortnight Chorale, the Airdrie Community Choir, and the Airdrie United Church Junior and Senior Choirs.  Her experience in accompanying soloists includes those from the vocal studios of Tara Kearney, Jacqueline Serpas, Anne Craig, and Shelly Fullerton.  Jill's students have participated in festivals regularly in the past, notably the Olds Kiwanis Festival, the Calgary Kiwanis Festival, and the Airdrie Rotary Festival of the Performing Arts.

 Our Studio’s Goals

It is our belief that the goal of every music studio should be to foster a knowledge and appreciation of music. The path to knowledge will be as individual as the student, and every effort should be made to find that path. A quality musical education includes developing music-reading skills, a good musical ear, a basic knowledge of composition, understanding of different musical styles, and simply listening to music. The focus of this studio is on not just reading music, but playing it musically. Notes are just black blobs on a white page until they are interpreted by the performer, and played with feeling. Music lessons also need to be enjoyable, in order to motivate the student to learn even more. Lessons are tailored to the individual's needs and abilities in order to fuel accomplishment and lessen frustration.
